Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command is a left-wing Palestinian nationalist organization. The group was founded in 1968 as a splinter group from the PFLP. Ahmed Jibril, one of the PFLP's early leaders, broke away to form the PFLP-GC. The new group initially declared that its focus would be military, not political.
Although it has been a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization from the beginning, the PFLP-GC has always opposed Yasser Arafat, and has not participated in the peace process.
The PFLP-GC has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.
