Prime Minister of Latvia

The Prime Minister of Latvia is the most powerful member of the Latvian government, and presides over the Latvian cabinet. The Prime Minister, who is a member of the Latvian parliament (the Saeima), is appointed by the President of Latvia, but must be able to obtain the support of a majority of parliament.

The table below displays all Latvian Prime Ministers since the country regained its independence. Until 6 July 1993, the office was known as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, but is generally considered to have been the same role. The term Prime Minister was also used historically, during the period of the first Republic of Latvia (1918 - 1940).
