His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip, Carl Philip Edmund Bertil (born May 13, 1979), Duke of Wermelandia, is the second child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. At his birth, he was created Duke of Wermelandia and also, being the eldest son, Crown Prince and Heir Apparent. However, a constitutional change taking effect from January 1, 1980 introduced full cognatic primogeniture, thus changing heir apparent to the Crown Prince's older sister Victoria. Prince Carl Philip is now second in line to the Swedish throne.
