Astrid was born as HRH Princess Astrid Maud Ingeborg of Norway in Villa Solbakken in Oslo on the 12th of February 1932. She is the second daughter of HM King Olav 5th of Norway(1903-1991) and HRH Crown Princess Martha, b. princess of Sweden(1901-1954).

From her mother's death in April 1954 till her brother's marriage in August 1968, Princess Astrid was the first lady of Norway, working side-by-side with her father.

Princess Astrid married the divorced Johan Martin Ferner(b. 22nd of July 1927) in the church of Asker outside Oslo on January 12th in 1961. They have five children:
