Province of South Carolina

The South Carolina Colony was originally part of the Province of Carolina, which was chartered in 1663.

The Carolinas were named for King Charles II of England. Originally a proprietary colony, the Carolinas became a crown colony in 1719, and the two Carolinas were separated in 1729, forming the Province of South Carolina.
