Public Image Ltd
Public Image Ltd (P.i.L.) was a band formed by John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), Jah Wobble, Keith Levene and Jim Walker after the Sex Pistols broke up, with later changes such as the drummer Martin Atkins. Debuting with the single "Public Image", an autobiographical reflection on the media furore surrounding Lydon's previous band, PiL were a far more experimental project. They were arguably responsible for some of the most innovative music to come out of the early post punk scene, using heavy bass and dub backed up by skittery guitar work; over which John Rotten howled agitated, paranoid stream-of-consciousness lyrics.
PiL's 1986 release simply entitled CD, Tape or Album, depending on your choice of format, featured the guitar work of Steve Vai.
