In 1993, Newfoundland premier Clyde Wells honoured Mercer with the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council's Artist of the Year award.
In 1998, Mercer created, wrote and performed on his own sitcom called "Made In Canada", which is now canceled.
In 2001, he created and co-produced a CBC special called, "Talking to Americans", which attracted 2.7 million Canadian viewers - the highest-rated comedy special in the history of CBC.
The Newfoundland actor, writer, comedian and producer has received a total of more than 20 Gemini Awards.
Mercer is the recipient of the prestigious Sir Peter Ustinov Award, presented to him at the 2003 Banff Television Festival.
In 2003, Rick went to Afganistan to entertain the troops and record "Christmas in Kabul" and in 2004 he launched his new CBC series "Rick Mercer's Monday Report".
