Rumia

Rumia is a town in Kashubia or Eastern Pomerania region, north-western Poland with some 40,000 inhabitants. Situated in the Wejherowo County in Pomeranian Voivodship since 1999, previously in Gdansk Voivodship (1975-1998).

It is connected by well developed railway and highway connections to the Tricity, over 1 milion aglomeration on the coast of Gdansk Bay.

Transportation

Rumia is well connected through 4 lane highway, that lead from Wejherowo to Gdynia and from there by Circle Highway to Gdansk. There is a plan to extend Circle Highway from Gdynia to beyond Wejherowo. In Rumia there are 2 stops of the SKM (fast city railway), that connects Lebork-Wejherowo-Rumia-Gdynia-Sopot-Gdansk-Tczew. The stops are called Rumia and Rumia-Janowo. There is also network of city buses that goes directly to Gdynia and Gdynia-Dabrowa.

History

City was created in 1954 by the consolidation of few villages: Rumia village, Zagórze, Biala Rzeka, Szmelta and Janowo. 2001 yet another village of Kazimierz was included.

Village Rumia

Village Rumia (formerly village Rahmel) was one of the villges that united in 1954 into town Rumia.

In 1215 was given by the prince of Eastern Pomerania to the closter of Oliva. Later it shared the history of the province:
1308 Teutonic Order state.

1770 Kingdom of Prussia, province West Prussia.
1920 Poland, Pomeranian Voivodship.
1939 Polish defense in WW2 annexed by Germany to the province Danzig-West Prussia
1945 Poland, Pomeranian Voivodship.
1954 Added to the town of Rumia.
