Little is known of Saebert, King of Essex (604-616). A tomb, found in the fall of 2003, in Prittlewell is thought to be this Saxon King's burial chamber. Several foil Crosses, perhaps sewn into his shroud, correlate with the accepted history that Saebert was a convert to Christianity. Other funereal goods, such as glass and copper alloy bowls, indicate a continuation of pagan beliefs.
