Shanghainese

Shanghainese 上海話 (pinyin shang4hai3 hua4) is a dialect of Wu Chinese spoken in Shanghai in Zhejiang.

Like other norther Wu dialects, it has voiced initials [b d g z v dʑ ʑ]. It is rich in vowels [i y ɿ e ø ɛ ə ɵ a ɔ o u], but has a set of five tones, less than those found in southern Wu dialects.
