He was raised in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire until the age of 11 when his family moved to the United States. Having developed an interest in music and playing the guitar, he joined Guns 'n Roses.
He left the band in 1996 after disagreeing with Axl Rose over musical direction. He then formed a group called Slash's Snakepit, which he disbanded in July 2001. Slash has currently embarked upon a musical endevour with old GN'R buddies Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and former STP frontman Scott Weiland, called Velvet Revolver. Their album, Contraband,is a highly anticipated one, which will draw upon the collective geniuoses of giants from two great musical eras (heavy metal and grunge-rock). Velvet Revolver's album is expected to make its debut sometime in Spring 2004.
