A Sovereign-class ship has 24 decks, and is equipped with Quantum Torpedos.

Only two Sovereign-class ships have ever been built:

• The original USS Sovereign (NX-73811), prototype of its class and testbed for several new technologies like enhanced deflectors and shields; The program was considered a failure when it turned out that the availiable warp cores at that time were not powerful enough to suit the huge energy needs of the ship's systems.
• The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard. In contrast to the USS Sovereign, this ship was equipped with conventional shields and deflectors. As of 2373, it is the flagship of the Starfleet.
