In teritories other than the US a more extensive model range was marketed under the name Rover 800, with Sterling being an secondary name for the more luxurious models. Following a revamp in 1992 this range lasted until 1998, by which time Rover was owned by BMW.
The replacement model was the current Rover 75, which has seen another change of ownership: BMW sold Rover to the management for a pepper-corn amount, to form the MG Rover Group.
