Strathroy, Ontario

Strathroy (2001 population 19,114) is a town in southwestern Ontario, Canada. In 1998 its town government merged with the outlying township of Caradoc to form the Township of Strathroy-Caradoc.

Strathroy was first settled in 1832 by John Stewart Buchanan, at a spot on the Sydenham River sufficient enough to power a grist mill. It was incorporated in 1860.

Manufacturing and food processing are major industries in Strathroy.

George Orton, Canada's first Olympic champion, was born here.
