Television camera

A television camera is a device for capturing and storing 2D images sequentially, at specified capture rates, usually in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum. These images can then be transmitted to receivers or "televisions", and replayed on a screen (CRT or LCD) at a framerate approximating that used by the camera. Immobilized humans on couches can observe these images and vicariously experience certain events (subject to various censoring mechanisms implemented by those who control the means of image capture and transmission), allowing them to experience pleasure, form political opinions, escape from (while paradoxically enforcing) dull and/or depressing routines, etc.

The television camera can also act as a means of communicating valuable information across large distances: world events, telerobotic exploration of planets or satellites, space stations, etc. It can also be used to record personal events for future reminiscing, or even as an artistic tool. These valuable uses are typically offset by the means in which data is filtered by those with the financial resources to control routing and distribution of data captured by television cameras, unfortunately.
