True-believer syndrome
The true-believer syndrome is an irrational, delusional belief in the paranormal. Someone who suffers from this cognitive disorder continues to believe in paranormal explanation for certain phenomena or events even after he has been confronted with abundant evidence that the phenomena have a natural cause. It was coined by M. Lamar Keene.
It a form of self deception and is generally not treated by psychiatrists because it generally doesn't endanger the normal functioning of a person.
