University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, also known as UIUC and the UofI (the officially preferred abbreviation), is a campus of the University of Illinois; the campus is divided almost exactly between the cities of Urbana and Champaign. The university is composed of 16 colleges and institutes that offer more than 150 programs of study. There are approximately 28,000 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate students at Champaign-Urbana.

UIUC is the site of National Center for Supercomputing Applications, which created the first graphical Web browser, Mosaic. It also hosts the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's missions conference, Urbana, every three years. The University also has the third largest academic library in the country.

The university's mascot is Chief Illiniwek, which sparks controversial debate because of its Native American background. This discussion is ever ongoing at the university, and both sides frequently make protests and write articles in the Daily Illini, a news-paper staffed by students.

UIUC's sports teams, nicknamed the Fighting Illini, compete in Division I (I-A for football) as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
