The first
New Jersey
(BB-16)
was a
battleship
commissioned in
1906
, decommissioned in
1920
, and sunk in
1923
in bombing tests.
The second
New Jersey
(BB-62)
was a
battleship
commissioned in
1943
, seeing much service in
World War II
,
Korean War
, and
Vietnam War
. It is presently a museum ship in
Camden, New Jersey
.
In
2004
, the United States Navy announced that it would be allowing tourists to stay overnight on the ship. For $45 per person, the guests would sleep in a "coffin bunk" overnight, participate in drills and tours, and eat Navy chow.
