Vinnie Colaiuta

Vinnie Colaiuta began his drumming career in 1979 by auditioning for Frank Zappa at the age of 19. As part of the audition, Frank whipped out a copy of the Black Page, which Vinnie started to play from *memory*. Then Frank presented him with some of his newly written orchestral music (which starts with a bunch of crazy 11 groupings) after which he was subjected to jamming with Frank's band in 21/16 time. Frank then told the rest of the drummers auditioning to go home. He replaced Terry Bozzio.
