Virginia Colony

Virginia Colony

The land held by the Virginia Colony of British North America was later partioned by the United States into the U.S. states of Virginia and Kentucky, and much later (during the American Civil War), into West Virginia. Virginia was one of the Southern Colonies.

The first settlement in Virginia was at Jamestown Settlement in Jamestown.

The colony became the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1776.
