Vladikavkaz (Владикавка́з) is the capital of North Ossetia. Population: 350,000. From 1932 to 1944 and from 1954 to 1990 its name was Orjonikidze (Орджоники́дзе), and from 1944 to 1954 is was Dzaujikau (Дзауджика́у). It is situated on the Terek river.
