Waikouaiti is a small town on the east coast of Otago, New Zealand.
This locality was the birthplace of the European settlement of Otago because of Johnny Jones, farmer, who was well established by 1848 when the first substantial planned immigration from Scotland took place, so he supplied provisions to early Dunedin.
It has a large beach that is used for training racehorses; most of them go on to compete at the racecourse and thereby appear on television.
