West Green was one of the first neighbourhoods to be constructed by the New Town development corperation in the 1950s. The neighbourhood has a mixture of commercial and residential property.

The area contains a hospital, a fire station, an ambulance station, a megaplex cinema, a supermarket and a hotel.
