William Hearst

William Hearst (February 15, 1864-September 29, 1941) Conservative Premier of Ontario from 1914 to 1919. His time in office saw women given the vote and an initiative to hold a plebiscite on prohibition that was held the same day as the 1919 general election. While prohibition was approved the Hearst government that proposed it was defeated in a shock victory by the United Farmers of Ontario in their first election.
