William Timothy Gowers is a lecturer at the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at Cambridge University and a Fellow of Trinity College. In 1996 he received the Prize of the European Mathematical Society. He was winner of the 1998 Fields Medal for research on functional analysis.
