The XM29 is an assault rifle which fires NATO5.56mmammunition and new type of 20x85mm HE shells. It may also be referred to as an XM8 light rifle (without the HE shell launcher). The weapon is still in the development phase, with chief contributors including Heckler und Koch (weapon design), Alliant Techsystems corporation (integration and munitions), Brashear (sighting equipment) and Omega of Columbus, GA (training means) companies.
