Russia's Yabloko - officially called the Yabloko Russian Democratic Party (Rossiiskaya Demokraticheskaya Partiya Yabloko/Российская Демократическая Партия Яблоко) - is a liberal political party, led by Grigorii Yavlinskii, which aims for, among other goals, the maintenance of Russia's territorial integrity, creation of high-quality public health and education system, and Russia's appliance to the European Union. Some consider the party a Social-Democrat party. The party itself decided to join Liberal International.
It is a minority party at the Duma. After the raising of an entry barrier of a 5% of the votes to get seats in the parliament in 2004, its future has been doubtful. The party has opposed the Chechnya War.
The party's name can be either interpreted as Ya Bloko (Я Блоко), meaning Your Bloc, or as Yabloko (Яблоко), meaning apple. Yabloko's logo is made of a red circle and a thin green arrow, suggesting an apple in constructivist style. The name was originally derived from the initials of the party's three founders.
