Thomas Bayes nacque a Londra nel 1702 e \nmorì il 17 aprile 1761 a Tunbridge Wells, Kent. È stato un matematico nonché\npastore presbiteriano. È noto in statistica per il\nsuo Teorema di Bayes sulla probabilità condizionata,\npubblicato postumo nel 1763. Di lui sono note le seguenti pubblicazioni:\n* Divine Benevolence, or an Attempt to Prove That the Principal End of the Divine Providence and Government is the Happiness of His Creatures (1731)\n* An Introduction to the Doctrine of Fluxions, and a Defence of the Mathematicians Against the Objections of the Author of the Analyst (1736)\n* Essay Towards Solving a Problem in the Doctrine of Chances (1763, pubblicato postumo in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London) È sepolto nel cimitero Bunhill Fields di Londra.
